Nita grew up in Southern California and moved to Hawaii when she was in her early 20s as she has always had a love for the ocean. This inspired Nita to develop her artistic ability. She started out becoming a self-taught child photographer working in black & white film and enhancing the enlargements by hand tinting. Nita attended Fine Arts at Saddleback College in Southern California where she studied ceramics and bronze casting. She continued with her ceramic studies at Irvine Fine Arts in Southern California as well as studying ceramics and painting at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Nita moved back to the islands and opened a boutique in Lahaina where she made and sold mermaid tales for children and adults. She was overcome by the reaction and happiness in every purchase that she started painting mermaids for family and friends, realizing that it brought them great joy.
Nita soon moved to Naples and developed a process of Mermaid Art including mixed media and incorporating natural findings of seashells, glass and other elements in her works. She developed her whimsical, vibrant and playful style of art that is carefree and innocent. She creates paintings that transport you to a world filled with magic and wonder. Each piece is a celebration of the beauty and joy found beneath the waves.
